I'm currently an AARMS postdoc at Dalhousie University working on, for lack of a better term, "discrete science".

During my PhD candidature, I studied the number of Latin squares/rectangles, and symmetries of Latin squares. Recently I have been expanding my interests into computer science and computational biology. One recent focal point is network motifs.

I am particularly fond of computational discrete mathematics. I often use:

  • GAP (computer algebra system),
  • R (for statistical computing),
  • Prover9 (automated theorem prover),
  • C or C++ (if speed is required).

Please visit my website for more info (e.g. a list of publications).

comment In C. elegans, which neuron has the largest span, and why is it this large?
Awesome answer! I meant length in Tim Busbice's sense, since these types of neurons cause havoc for my network analysis.

Interesting! Thanks for that.

comment Do lucid dream eyemasks work?
I asked here because I was hoping for an answer like: "Oh yes, I've used a similar device in my research on [blah blah blah]". But, if it becomes a debunking question, I agree it's better at Skeptics.

comment What are the key examples of the use of computational methods in the study of biological neural networks?
Thanks for the great answer, and to the other answerers! This is plenty to get me going.
