comment What test can be used to measure memory?
I agree with everyone else that if you narrow down what you wanted it will help others to give more specific answers. My answer below is just off the top of my head / some quick search of what's available.

comment How long does it take to read a sentence with X number of characters?
I agree with @ArtemKaznatcheev. This question is very interesting. People do not read text in a linear fashion. Instead our eyes jump around, just like when we process a visual scene. However, I'm not aware of the effects of text length on reading speed. If I find something I will make an answer.

@ajk I think your question (although shows a misconception by those less familiar with the topic) is very good and provides an excellent opportunity for you and others to learn more. I'm working on an answer right now and will post it shortly!

comment Is there a region of cortex which over a period of development becomes the seat of self?
Chuck's answer did not provide further evidence supporting the prefrontal cortex to be the 'seat of consciousness' probably because it is still actively being investigated. Currently there is not one single widely accepted model of consciousness and it has not been proven that a single region is responsible for consciousness. Because of this, I don't think it is appropriate to say that his critique of the Cartesian Theatre is outdated. It might be one day, but not yet.

Your question is a confusing because of some unclean grammar as well as lack of focus. I think you should first try to separate this into two questions. One about the visual classification (maybe you want to look into sign language translation, visual recognition of gestures etc.). After you find something more interesting you want focus on, it will be easier to ask about open source tools for it.

comment What are current neuronal explanations and models of 'consciousness'?
To be honest I haven't read much on Koch's work yet. More for my accumulated list of readings to do. This is definitely interesting; thank you!

comment What are current neuronal explanations and models of 'consciousness'?
@ArtemKaznatcheev Thanks for the link. I actually was looking at that article briefly while asking my question. That article was written/moderated by Anil Seth. However I wanted different perspectives. Bronson's answer does a good job explaining in a way I can grasp better. Especially on the phenomenological model which was mentioned in two sentences in the Scholarpedia article.

comment What are current neuronal explanations and models of 'consciousness'?
I'm not sure if this question is too broad. My motivation for this questions/interest in the topic stems from current reading of Daniel Dennett's "Consciousness Explained". Maybe I can update the question after I understand more. If anyone could provide more input on this topic or suggest how to narrow the focus, that would be nice.

comment Introductory resources on developmental psychology/neuroscience
@dominic999 Ah I see, I was a bit curious. I haven't included that much developmental references but if I come across any I will.

@dominic999 I think it will be useful if you provide a link or more information regarding the 'child competence' construct and how the subcomponents are measured.

comment How does goal-tracking and sign-tracking behaviour vary across species?
@BenBrocka In each species there is some variation. What I am interested in is how that variation itself differs between different species. I have a bit of trouble wording that, but hope it makes sense.

I have had similar sentiments, one of the reasons why I asked my question.
