What constructs help explain limited cognitive processing and the cognitive effects of rules that limit decision making choices? Intrinsic load is defined as the the number of elements to be processed simultaneously, whereas extrinisic load is caused by the presentation of the elements. The additional rules simply add to the number of elements. Your wife could present the basic task on one sheet of paper and the additional rules on another one, thereby introducing extraneous loud. I do agree with you, that Cognitive Load Theory is probably not the best theory for a problem like this. The main focus of CLT is the aquisition and construction of schemata, and I wouldn't put your problem in that category. |
