I work as a security analyst. I'm from Australia, although I've recently immigrated to the US and hope to start a small business offering security services.

I have a strong interest and knowledge in different access control models, reading about new exploits and vulnerabilities and digital forensics.

I down voted this, because an answer giving definitions that I am already familiar with, by virtue of asking the question, is not an answer.

This is an excellent answer.

I think the answer to your update is flawed, because it spreads the FUD that someone with no morals will do "bad" things for that very reason, when that is pure speculation and has very little science to back it up. Such speculative opinion masquerading as science has no place in a true academic discussion, IMO.

Hi, thanks. I don't feel that answer really helps though, as I had read the same papers and books you reference, which is where my question came from. The work in sociopathy and psychopathy seems highly speculative. Perhaps you could clarify your answer to indicate why a lack of response to punishment would suggest a lack of conscience or fear, as opposed to simply feeling they didn't do anything wrong and that the punishment is unjust?

Yes, I agree with that. The problem I had is when you were saying that pedophilia is a criminal offence. Having that attraction should not be an offense, especially if such people can't help it. Molesting is a different story altogether.

I do not have a predetermined POV, I certainly lean towards it being a sexual orientation, but am interested in what the facts show. You are very much incorrect that pedophilia is a criminal offense. That is not up for debate. Child Molestation is a criminal offense. Pedophilia is either a mental disorder or a sexual orientation, neither of which can be a criminal offense. I do appreciate you expanding your answer, but unless you understand the difference between pedophilia and child molestation, there is no way I could ever accept your answer as correct.

@Speldosa If you search the word punishment on that wiki page similar claims are found. Also see this page which states that psychopaths don't respond to punishment, which to me seems to be a defining trait. I would rather not make the question specific to psychopathy however. Would you say measuring response to punishment is not used in diagnoses at all?

@OfriRaviv I feel that I've laid this out quite clearly in this and the other question dedicated to this topic. A paraphilia has symptoms (for lack of a better word) such as intense recurring dreams that are not typically associated with a more common orientation. If you disagree then please give an answer, as at the moment I feel like you are just playing with semantics.

@OfriRaviv, I guess I didn't make my point clear. The only symptom of being heterosexual is a sexual attraction to members of the opposite sex. Is the only symptom of pedophilia a sexual attraction to pre-pubescent children, or are there are additional symptoms which are also generally ascribed to mental disorders? If you say it is only a matter of terminology perhaps you could support that and provide it as a answer.
