Why are most people not persuaded by rational arguments?
What is logical, is not always in our best interest. At some point axioms are just like balls being juggled in the air; if you stop other processes to examine each item, the balls will fall when the hands stop. But it does look very impressive when many of them are being juggled. See: quantum physics for more fun with absurdity.
