What is the scientific support for Einstein's claim about the negative effects of reading too much? I don't know why it would be considered off-topic at all. I am asking about the effect an activity has on the mind. Many of you are so convinced that reading is good for the brain, you refuse to even critically examine the possible alternative, and that is why the question is being viewed negatively. The fact I quoted Einstein was just an anecdote to add interest to the question, not to imply that Einstein knew reading was bad. The quote just sparked my curiosity as to possible negative effects of reading that may exist. |

What is the scientific support for Einstein's claim about the negative effects of reading too much? Well I think he is implying that you can read too much, because the more you read, the more likely you are to suffer from some of the negative consequences of reading. |

What is the scientific support for Einstein's claim about the negative effects of reading too much? @RobertHarvey, I think the book was even written by a literature professor. I see the irony you speak of, but I think he is suggesting that too much reading is bad, not all reading is bad. But even if he was suggesting all reading is bad, one could think of it as a book to end all books. It is the toss up between reading this one book and never reading again vs reading hundreds of books that could cause harm. |
