I was watching the new kindle commercial and I noticed a few things that seemed to make me lean towards the NEW Kindle Fire HD (They emphasize "new" a lot)

One of the things that stood out to me the second time I saw it (I was paying attention this time) was that at the end of the side-by-side comparison (around 0:24) the right side of the vodei (with the kindle) seems to be brighter (especially the plant that they placed in the same spot in both frames... it is much more green, also the hand is brighter, and less saturated)

I'm wondering if any of you more trained ones can spot anything else to enlighten me... I always find marketing fascinating and I love thinking about the science of influence. (Especially the subconscious influence)

any differences in brightness and saturation here is very minor-- i highly doubt it's anything intentional. however, there is a more obvious change: the kindle user is female and the ipad user is male. he's got big fat thumbs, she's got slender thumbs. certainly their decision to use different actors here is intentional, although the reasons why can only be speculated... – Jeff Mar 21 at 16:08
@Jeff Yes, I noticed that as well but wasn't sure :o) Thanks for the comment! +1 – Albert Renshaw Mar 21 at 18:29

Also, the iPad images (not just on screen, but the background, too) are lower in contrast, the colors are greyish, while the Kindle images have a "richer" black and warmer colors. Any male buyer (and these products are mainly bought by men) will prefer the "warm" woman to the "cold" man. – user1196 Mar 21 at 19:28

Speaking as a community member and not as a moderator, this feels too specific to me. I'm not sure if analyizing a specific commercial makes for a good question, rather, I'd prefer to see this question talk about a broader marketing/psychological concept. If my close votes were not binding I would vote to close as "Too Localized" – Josh Gitlin Mar 21 at 22:15

Given some support from the community I went ahead and closed this question. After discussing it in chat, Jeff mentioned a great point: the question could possibly be re-worded asking about a specific effect ("are brighter stimuli typically judged more positively than dark stimuli?") offering the commercial as incidental evidence. If you'd be willing to rework the question along those lines Albert, I will gladly reopen. – Josh Gitlin Mar 21 at 23:13
